Trees Don’t Rot tells the story of a woman unable to deal with the internal pain of losing a family member. The story is set in the characters imaginary world where she lives her life reclusively in attempt to avoid dealing with any emotional pain and harsh realities from the “real world”.
Kagiso Gabela is a South African screenwriter and film director. He was born in 1995 and studied/completed a BA in motion picture medium in 2018, at AFDA: The South African School of Motion Picture Medium & live Performance. His films explore themes such as; isolation, addiction and toxic family dynamics. His latest project “Ntando” told the story of an 11-year-old boy going through his struggle with addiction, loss and internal pain, set in the backdrop of Khayelitsha, Western Cape, South Africa. The film was selected to screen at a New York-based film festival, ‘Nukhu Fest 2019’. Kagiso Gabela currently stays in Cape Town working as an independent filmmaker.
